Quality technician/ Inspector Job Description
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Inspecting product at setup, in-process and end of run in manufacturing areas using industry-appropriate methods, such as comparing to standards, measuring dimensions and examining functionality
- Checking that the assembly or production line adheres to company quality system procedures
- Reviewing blueprints, control plans and specifications to compare to produced goods
- Recording inspection results by completing reports, summarizing results and inputting data into the required forms, software or database
- Training the production team on quality control measures to improve product excellence
- Proposing improvements to the production process
- Monitoring the use of equipment to ensure it is safe and discard any that do not meet requirements
- Updating job knowledge by engaging in educational opportunities and regular training
- Keeping measurement equipment operating accurately by following calibration requirements and assisting as needed in the calibration process
- Operate a Coordinate measuring machine as required (training will be provided)
- Perform different types of audits (manufacturing process, product and internal QMS audits)
- Participate in and administer gage studies (R & R)
- Other duties as assigned by Manager
Skills and Qualifications:
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail
- Technical skills and ability to understand blueprints, documents and specifications, procedures and QMS documents
- Knowledge of basic math and computer skills (Excel, Word, statistical software such as Minitab)
- Ability to audit manufacturing processes and coach/ train others on process conformance and procedural requirements
- Strong leadership skills and teamwork mentality
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to correctly use attribute gages, performing visual product inspections, use of calipers/ micrometers, torque wrench, push out testers, etc…
- Ability to work on feet for long periods of time (roving floor inspections)
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally under stressful situations as needed
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year experience of product inspections (visual, gages, caliper, micrometer, torque, push out, etc…)
- Required – Minimum high school graduate or GED
- Preferred – experience in metal stamping/ welding automotive industry
